community
and as a ministry of the Church. Our goal was to provide
quality child care in a safe, loving, and Christian environment and to
promote the work of our Lord Jesus Christ by teaching youngsters about
God. A learning environment is provided whereby children are taught
about Jesus, but instruction is also provided in areas that will give
the child a foundation for Kindergarten. The Child Care Center is fully
licensed by the State Department of Human Service and is in compliance
with all the state and local health and fire codes.
The Center has been approved to care for up to 24 children, ages 6
weeks to Kindergarten age. Typically the Center employs two to three
full time teachers as well as part-time help, depending on the number
of children enrolled. Children of all races, faiths, and naionalities
are welcome.
The Gatlinburg Presbyterian Church provides a Board of Directors
to oversee the Center. Since the Center is a mission outreach of the
Church, the Board is careful to see that families in crises are given
special help. The Board often authorizes reduced rates for children in
need and allows parents to work off amounts they owe by volunteering at
the Center. The Director has access to a fund provided by the Church
from which she can provide for special needs of children.
The Center also accepts children on a day-to-day basis if space is
available. This service has been a favorite with tourists and
townspeople alike. Currently the fee for daily care is $30.00 per child.
The Child Care Center is now accepting children under
the auspices of
the Federal Government's "Families First" program.
